The NewJeans Zine Is Here, and They Have A Lot More Up Their Sleeves

NEWJEANS IS, IN FACT, one of the buzziest music groups today. When their self-titled EP dropped in the summer of 2022, it sold 400,000+ pre-orders within four days, surpassing any debut EP from a Korean girl group. Over a year since the drop, they have amassed ambassadorships with Gucci, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton, garnered more than 10 million followers across their socials, and have a dedicated following that encapsulates more than 25 million listeners on Spotify monthly.

But it’s no surprise that their names are in constant circulation. By breaking the mold for a traditional teased release as their K-pop predecessors have done, NewJeans’ surprise drops have set a new standard within the genre. One that has proven to show viral appeal in an over-saturated market. That’s why Rolling Stone sat with each of the girls to produce a Special Edition Zine Featuring NewJeans!

“We say this a lot, but it really is hard to believe,” Danielle, one of the group’s five members, tells Rolling Stone. Yet, as hard as it might be to believe, the girls have no intention of stopping, group member Minji adding, “We’ve come a long way in a short amount of time, but we talk amongst ourselves too, like ‘We haven’t done x, y, or z, yet!’ ”

Apart from being one of Rolling Stone‘s Future 25, a selection of rising artists reinventing and dominating the music industry, the magazine sat down with each of the girls for a candid discussion about their music and careers. Each interview enters their world for exclusive access as they discuss their relationship with each other, their goals for the future, and a reflection of their first year. As Minji adds, “I’m really looking forward to things like that and just the entire future ahead of us as a group,” Minji adds. “I think it’ll be so fun. Everything feels new, which makes it exciting day by day.”
